About StandTool
Fighting tool theft — one serial number at a time.
🚀 A Message from the Founder
I started StandTool after experiencing tool theft first hand. As an electrician, I know how devastating it is to arrive on site and find your van has been broken into — thousands of pounds of tools, gone overnight.
The problem is simple: there's no central way for pawnbrokers, buyers, or fellow tradespeople to check whether a second-hand tool is stolen. This makes it too easy for thieves to profit.
StandTool is my attempt to change that. It's completely free to register your tools — and the more people who join, the more powerful it becomes. If everyone in the trades registers their tools, we create a database that makes stolen tools impossible to sell.
Please — register your tools today. Share this with every tradesperson you know. Together, we can make tool theft not worth the risk.

The Scale of the Problem
How to Protect Your Tools
Follow these tips to reduce the risk of theft and improve your chances of recovery.
Mark your tools
Engrave or UV pen your postcode and house number onto every tool. Make it permanent and visible.
Photograph everything
Take clear photos of each tool, including the serial number plate. Store them securely in the cloud.
Register serial numbers
Register every tool on StandTool with its serial number. This is your best chance of recovery.
Secure your van overnight
Use a van vault or locking system. Park under a light or CCTV. Never leave tools overnight in a plain van.
Report theft immediately
Report to police as soon as a tool is stolen. Get a crime reference number — you'll need it for insurance and recovery.
Share with your network
Tell fellow tradespeople about the theft on local forums, Facebook groups, and WhatsApp. The community is your best asset.
Alert local pawnbrokers
Stolen tools often end up in pawn shops. Notify local shops and provide the serial numbers.
Keep receipts and invoices
Store proof of purchase for every tool. This helps with insurance claims and proves ownership.
